Business spotlight – shire nannies

shire nannies

This year, from time to time I will be sharing a business spotlight on the blog, featuring a local business that I love.  I am really excited about this spotlight because it is for Shire Nannies, a wonderful local nanny service!

Enjoy finding out more about Erin & her story here:-

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I love saving a family some quality time by taking all the hard work out of finding a safe, responsible and professional local nanny or babysitter for their family. As Dorothy from the wizard of Oz says “there’s no place like home”- providing families with the choice to have their child cared/educated for at own home, where they child feels safe and secure gives me a real buzz. The nanny really becomes part of the family and with extra little things like cooking dinner, tidying up and bringing in the washing for example just helps make life that little bit easier for any family.

How did you get started?

After having my 1st child 5 years ago returning to work to look after other peoples darlings while mine would be looked after by someone else, didn’t seem right- so I resigned from my Teaching position and returned to nannying where I took my daughter with me. Over the years dealing with larger nanny agencies and being a mother myself I began thinking I how I could offer families in my local area with a much more personable and quality service- so when my 2nd child was 6mths old Shire Nannies was born (admittedly not the best timing but it just all seemed to come together)

How big is your company in terms of employees?

Our database of nannies has now reached 100, which is really great- As far as running the business is concerned it is just little old ‘me’ at this stage with help from my talented husband and his very talented work college who does all our graphic design (thanks Zora)

Where can we find you and how can we contact you (phone number & location)?

you can contact me via

Can you tell the Forever Bliss Photography newsletter readers a little bit about Shire Nannies?

Shire Nannies is a unique nanny agency based in the Sutherland Shire and St George areas. ‘Unique’ because we are a boutique agency focusing solely on providing local families with high quality local nannies and babysitters. With a very strict screening process and on-going expectations of nannies we take all the hard work out of finding the perfect and safest nanny for your family, what ever your needs may be permanent, casual or temporary. In 2011 we will also be announcing some new services for both our families and nannies that i am really excited about.

What is your favourite thing about living in the Sutherland Shire?

Growing up in a little coastal town called Sawtell I moved to Sydney 12 years however, once settled in Cronulla I just felt right at home- sand, sun and surfers! I love how it doesn’t feel like you are living in ‘Sydney’- you have the best of both worlds really- you can head into the city to get amongst the hustle and bustle then you can return home to sanity when heading back to the Shire- I wouldn’t live anywhere else in Sydney that’s for sure!

What’s your favourite ‘indulgence’ that is just for you?

I can’t go past a night out for dinner with a fresh seafood platter and a glass of wine

What do you do to relax?

A weekend retreat usually works ;)

Thank you Erin for talking to us!

cheers, Chantelle
