Business Spotlight – Cheeky Chickies Free Range Clothing

cc09bw web

This year, from time to time I will be sharing a business spotlight on the blog, featuring a local business that I love.  I am really excited about this spotlight because it is for Cheeky Chickies Free Range Clothing. I first met Deni a few years ago at a baby Expo, and her range of clothes are wonderful, gorgeous stuff for your little boy or girl!

Enjoy finding out more about Deni and the Cheeky Chickies story here:-

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I love the creative aspect, the design stages, coming up with different looks by mixing and matching styles and colours. Its so far removed from my other line of work – as a psychologist working with adolescents with complex mental health issues. Its great to have a balance between the challenging, but rewarding time I spend between my adolescent clients, my family life, and running my business.

I also love working alongside other creative and like minded business women – most of whom are mums like myself, juggling family, home and business. Women are so inspiring!

How did you get started?

The opportunity presented back in 2006, after the birth of my first child Amalia, to take on an online children’s retail store. It was so exciting sourcing unique brands, and was particularly drawn to bright bold colours. I also found it amazing how supportive other business women are. Over the following years, I dreamed of a time when I would create my own designs under the Cheeky Chickies label, and made this a reality in April 2009.

How big is your company in terms of employees?

I don’t have employees as such, though I have a fantastic team of people whom I work with on a contract basis. From my fabric manufacturer, to my pattern maker and seamstress, graphic designer and production assistant, I seek out the services of the most appropriate professionals, to fill the gaps that I cannot complete myself, to the standard of quality I want for my business.

Where can we find you and how can we contact you (phone number & location)?

All our business details are listed on our website www.cheekychickies.com.au. Cheeky Chickies Free Range Clothing is available in selected super stylish boutiques around Australia (stockist list is growing day by day) and end of line and limited edition pieces are available through Allies Attic boutique market.

Can you tell the Forever Bliss Photography newsletter readers a little bit about Cheeky Chickies?

Cheeky Chickies is a fashion and accessories label for babies and children. Our Free Range Clothing Collection is proudly made in Australia from 100% certified organic cotton, in a variety of bright, bold, yummy colours. The styles are designed to mix and match to create a funky layered outfit, or worn individually, stylishly compliment printed skirts, dresses and shirts. This Spring, we are excited to be launching our new Just Hatched collection for sizes 000-1, alongside our Hatchlings 0-2years and Just Hatched 2-6years collections.
Do you have a family?

Yes, our little chicken coop (currently awaiting an extension to commence) is home to my husband Nathan, kids Amalia (4 years) and Taelan (2 years) and our crazy staffy Jaz. We are lucky to have both my mum and dad, and sister and brother-in-law living around the corner, and look forward to welcoming my sister’s twins to the world towards the end of this year J

What is your favourite thing about living in The Shire?

Oh, what’s not to love – born and bread here! I spent nearly two years in England living with Nathan and his family before we married, and as much as the travelling was a fantastic adventure, I was very homesick. I love that we are surrounded by gorgeous sandy beaches, stunning river ways, breath taking national parks, and fantastic community facilities that make for a great place to raise our kids.

What’s your favourite ‘indulgence’ that is just for you?

Hhhmmmmm…. A good coffee and some toasted fruit and nut sourdough for a morning tea treat, and organic dark chocolate accompanied by a crisp sav blanc as an evening treat.

What do you do to relax?

Relax?! Don’t get much opportunity to do that, between working at the Hospital two days a week, kids, husband, home, running Cheeky Chickies and my volunteer role as Editor for our community Village News….. I have an obscene need to be constantly busy! I do love a good remedial massage though, a walk along the beach, and when our house extension is complete, I have made myself a promise to install a big comfy hammock in a warm sunny location.

Thanks Deni!
